The Need
Broadband cable operators, telecom operators and utility companies using street cabinets, often house communication and HFC (Hybrid Fiber Coaxial) equipment from several separate vendors, each of which uses their own monitoring equipment. As a result, alerts and fault reporting enters through separate channels, and is managed sub-optimally, to say the least. In addition, overall environment
security and access management are not tended to. Theft and vandalism are costly and cause network failures; in addition, operation wise cabinets have no return path ingress monitoring, and the network management center has no detailed HFC up/down remote port close / reset capabilities.
In many cases, there is also an issue of power. There is a lack of real-time monitoring of multi-vendor equipment and mapping of power redundancy alert source analysis.
On site third party active devices are accessible through vendor's serial proprietary port, but cannot be accessed remotely.
The Solution
AIO Systems controller allows for integrated monitoring of the various vendors’ equipment. This includes centralized remote control and management of the active devices.
In addition, the system controls the power schema of the street cabinet , such as back-up and rectifying systems (such as UPS, PS, DPS), monitors the optical node, checks and operates environmental parameters (fans, air conditioners, etc.), provide thermic map of the cabinet (temperature, humidity, air flow, light sensitivity), as well as handling cabinet security by using
access control , equipment specific
security elements , manhole theft monitoring and overall protection elements.
The system also offers reverse telnet capabilities – AIO's controller can provide possibility to remotely connect to thethird party vendors' active network devices on site, using the vendor's serial communication programs, by remotely accessing vendors’ proprietary port.
Benefits
- Minimum site downtime
- Theft and vandalism reduction
- Identification of the faults before they happen, and alert the customer before the problem affects the end user
- Securing specific equipment via active sensors
- Unified monitoring, control and management of active devices and passive infrastructure.
